PENNY FULLER AND HELEN STUMBAUM
Penny Fuller and Helen Stumbaum share core strategy and design leadership at Sydney based architecture studio Silvester Fuller. Together, Penny and Helen are collaborating on a broad range of projects including a range of apartment buildings, a luxury resort in Tasmania, a number of community centres for the Anglican Church and will this year commence work on the first Nightingale Housing projects in Sydney.
Fashion designer, WAH-WAH
Designed in Sydney and inspired by the punk rock record covers, gig posters and old-school comics beloved by designer Kaylene Milner since she was a teenager, WAH-WAH reimagines awesome music designs as wearable art. Collaborating with local and international bands and artists, WAH-WAH is a marriage of the elements of pop culture that is bright, loud, and proudly tongue-in-cheek.
The seeds of WAH-WAH were first planted in high school when Milner saw a photo of Dinosaur Jr.'s J Mascis wearing a Deep Wound sweater his mother had knitted for him. The image stayed with her even as she worked on her first high end label, Kaylene Milner. Despite the success and critical acclaim it garnered, Milner felt she wanted to do something different as a designer. Finally, after more than a decade, WAH-WAH Australia was born.
Working closely with local manufacturers to perfect the design process, WAH-WAH's jumpers are made in Australia using Australian wool. Milner is passionate about supporting the local garment industry and ensuring fair work for fair pay.
Artist and sculptor
Anna-Wili's sculptures are stitched together from archival cotton rag. Her works explore the organic qualities and resistance of paper, generating a tension between the complex realism of form and the limitations and economy of the materials used. They represent animal life in an immediate way that conveys the energy, movement and physical character of different creatures. Her aim is to engineer a moment of contact with nature in a way that emphasises both the startling differences and similarities of human and animal forms and consciousness.
Born in Sydney 1980, the daughter of a Puppeteer, Anna-Wili studied Fine Art at the National Art School, Sydney. In 2008, after working as a Scenic Artist for Opera Australia, she began making sculptures independently by commission. Her works are held in private collections around the world and have featured in numerous publications.
